Netflix said on Oct. 25 that the family film Dilwali Diwali premieres on Netflix on Thursday, Nov. 5.
The film comes from Terribly Tiny Tales, known as TTT. Netflix said it continues its association with TTT, after Greater Kalesh and Musafir Cafe. The announcement ran on Netflix’s newsroom.
Netflix’s synopsis centers on Ansh Sikka, who worked abroad for years. He buys a high-rise apartment for his middle-class Punjabi parents, then visits them for Diwali. Netflix says a new home does not necessarily mean a fresh start, and that Ansh and his parents see a good life differently. The film follows the Sikka family as they come together for the festival.
Mihir Ahuja plays Ansh. Manoj Pahwa plays Ansh’s father. Neelu Kohli and Aurra Bhatnagar also star. Ritu Mago wrote the film, and Ritesh Menon directed it. Netflix did not say which parts Kohli and Bhatnagar play.
Ahuja said in Netflix’s announcement that Ansh’s journey “comes from a place of love.” He said he hopes audiences “see a little bit of their own families in the Sikkas.”
Pahwa said in the same announcement that “home is never just about the walls, the furniture, or the address.” He said children may hold a different idea of what makes a good life, but “the love behind both perspectives is the same.”
The announcement gives no release time, no runtime, no trailer and no list of countries where the film will stream. The desk has not confirmed the film for US or UK viewers, so the title page lists no service until Netflix says more.
Netflix said the story sets a parent’s idea of happiness against a child’s idea of success.
The next step is the premiere itself on Nov. 5. When Netflix publishes a release time, a trailer or a list of countries, the title page for Dilwali Diwali will be updated with them.
